The word Apostle means “sent.” Jesus sent them into the world with a message.
Do you know what the Apostles’ salvation message was?
Apostle Peter, obeying the command of Jesus Christ (Luke 24:47), preached this message on the opening day of the Church. Jesus does all things well and started His Church right. The right message was preached and it is still right today. He said:
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). That was the message Jesus told Him to preach (Luke 24:47). Further, if they would do this, the Lord would give them the gift of the Holy Ghost. So Peter continued: Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (your part), and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (God’s part).
The angel said, “Call His name Jesus for He shall save His people from their sins”. Salvation is what God does when He saves us from our sins. According to Peter, remission of sins is received not only by faith in Jesus, but by our repenting, and being baptized in the name of Jesus.
Other scriptures include baptism as necessary to receive forgiveness for sins:
